Tesoro awards GAP $175,000 for New Mobile Learning Vehicle and $25,000 for My Gangfree Life

GAP is thrilled to announce the Tesoro Foundation has awarded the Gang Alternatives Program $175,000.00 for a new Mobile Learning Vehicle (MLV).

GAP’S MLV will provide quality programming and resources that support Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and Common Core Standards Learning Initiatives. Program Components also consist of innovative learning strategies and techniques such as “STEM” The integration of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Rather than teach the four disciplines as separate and discrete subjects The MLV will afford GAP the resources to integrate them into cohesive learning paradigm based on real world applications.

GAP plans to expand its services into surrounding communities such as Long Beach, Carson, San Pedro and Wilmington. GAP’s MLV creates an opportunity for GAP to reach out and offer computer literacy programming and skill building techniques that are valuable learning commodities in the community for free. The MLV will also be featured in GAP’s STEP UP! After School Program, creating extended learning opportunities for our youth who reside in socio-economically challenged communities. GAP also plans to collaborate with other community based organizations such as the Boys & Girls Club and the YMCA. The MLV will be furnished with 30 new Apple iPad, the most current hardware, software applications, digital educational software, laser printers and wireless capability. Hands on instruction is provided by our Apple Certified Technician.
