Los Angeles, CA – On Tuesday October 8, 2013, GAP Public & Governmental Affairs team, along with GAP Board President, Jane Tokubo and community partner Los Angeles City Councilman Buscaino accepted the John Anson Ford Human Relations Award at the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on behalf of our long standing and dedicated community leader, Janet Shour.
Janet’s legacy was honored for her role in forming the Mary Ann Cypher (MAC) group from the Harbor Gateway and creating and launching the Harbor Gateway Pocket Park, which is named the “Janet Shour Playground” in honor of her. The park is an example of a successful partnership between Federal, State and local government and community groups. The John Anson Ford Award goes out to empower communities and institutions, foster harmonious and equitable inter-group relations, engage in non-violent conflict resolution and promote an informed and inclusive multicultural society, as arranged by the chairman.
